Weston Town Hall Meeting 8/24/06

State Rep. Franklin Sands (D-Weston) hosted a Town Hall Meeting (“Meeting”) at the Bonaventure Town Center Club in Weston on August 23, 2006 at which he presented the PowerPoint presentation which was developed by Bob Hunter, Director of Insurance for the Consumer Federation of America, and previously distributed to you via email.
Rep. Sands advised the audience to check with their insurance agents regarding law and ordinance coverage. He also presented information regarding the My Safe Florida Home program, which offers free home inspections by qualified hurricane mitigation inspectors and other financial incentives to eligible homeowners. Also present for the panel discussion were an attorney specializing in bad faith claims against insurers and an independent insurance agent who advised that the Florida Association of Insurance Agents has formed a coalition with Realtors, builders and bankers to try to resolve issues related to the insurance crisis in Florida. The coalition supports a special legislative session for discussing insurance issues.
A reporter and a videographer from WTVJ-NBC 6 were also present at the Meeting and videotaped portions of Rep. Sands’ presentation and the Question and Answer session at the end of the Meeting.
