Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services Announces New Insurance Requirement for Vendors Who Sell Portable Electronic Devices

Jan 17, 2012

Effective January 1, 2012, the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services is requiring limited producer licenses for vendors who sell or lease portable electronic devices.  The announcement, which is reprinted below, is also attached in its entirety.

Portable Electronic Devices

As of Jan. 1, 2012, vendors who sell or lease portable electronics devices, such as cell phones or electronic tablets, must obtain a limited insurance producer license from the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services before issuing, selling, or offering portable electronics insurance coverage to customers. The licensing structure will allow for the licensed entity (such as large retailers) to maintain the license. Individual sales staff will not be required to obtain individual licenses as long as certain conditions are met.
