Florida Insurance Commissioner Names Jim Bennett Director of Market Investigations

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) has issued the information below regarding the promotion of Jim Bennett to OIR Director of Market Investigations.

Florida Insurance Commissioner Names Jim Bennett Director of Market Investigations

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty today announced that he has promoted Jim Bennett to director of market investigations for the Office of Insurance Regulation (Office). Mr. Bennett will report to General Counsel Steve Parton.
 
Mr. Bennett joined the Office in October 2004 where he initially served as senior attorney. He was promoted to executive senior attorney in August 2007 and then served as the chief assistant general counsel for the Office’s market investigations unit. In that role, he monitored daily activities of the unit, and he represented the Office in many NAIC multi-state examinations.  

Prior to joining the Office, Mr. Bennett worked as a partner at Frier & Bennett, P.A. where he handled commercial litigation and bankruptcy filings. Mr. Bennett also served for 12 years as a trial attorney with the Office of the U.S. Trustee.

In addition Mr. Bennett was a staff attorney for the Department of Management Services from November 1989 to June 1991, and he was an assistant state attorney for the Office of the State Attorney from June 1987 to November 1989.        

Mr. Bennett replaces Sam Binnun, who recently left the Office to pursue a new career opportunity.
