Florida Governor Rick Scott Extends Hurricane Matthew State of Emergency by 60 Days

Florida Governor Rick Scott announced today, December 5, 2016, that he has extended the State of Emergency in effect as result of Hurricane Matthew.

The Executive Order 16-274 extends the former one (Executive Order 16-230) by 60 days.

Of note, Florida law s. 252.63 defines the powers of Florida’s Insurance Commissioner in a State of Emergency, specifying that, when the Governor declares a State of Emergency pursuant to s. 252.36, the Insurance Commissioner may issue one or more general orders applicable to all insurance companies, entities and persons, as defined in s. 624.04 that are subject to the Florida Insurance Code and that serve any portion of the area of the state under the State of Emergency.
