Colodny Fass Shareholder Maria Elena Abate presented “Fighting Fraud in Sinkhole Claims” at the Florida Insurance Fraud Education Committee (FIFEC) Conference, held June 13-15, 2012, in Orlando, Florida.
In her presentation, Ms. Abate discussed significant changes to sinkhole law resulting from the passage of Senate Bill 408 during Florida’s 2011 Regular Legislative Session, and how those changes can be utilized in sinkhole claims handling and litigation. Also included in the presentation is an overview of sinkhole claims fraud and various tools that can be used to combat it, including Examinations Under Oath (EUOs).
