Broward County Public Schools Awarded Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada

May 6, 2011

It was announced today, May 6, 2011, that Broward County Public Schools has been awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the current budget from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.

This award is the highest form of recognition in governmental budgeting and represents a significant achievement by the District. This is the 14th year the award has been presented to the District.  The award reflects the commitment of the Broward County School Board as the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.

To receive the budget award, the District had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation.  These guidelines are designed to assess how well the District budget serves as: a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device.

Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award. When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual or department designated as being primarily responsible for its having achieved the award. This was presented to the District’s Budget Office staff.
