Louisiana Department of Insurance Releases Insurer Preparation Tips in Advance of 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season

To assist insurers in being prepared for the upcoming 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Louisiana Department of Insurance released the information below today, April 20, 2011.

With the upcoming onset of the 2011 Atlantic Hurricane Season, the Louisiana Department of Insurance asks all insurers and other regulated entities to take steps to be certain that they are prepared in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster.  Please be certain to:

 

Check and Update Contact Information with the Department

You can use the Company Contacts Module of the Industry Access System to check and update the contact information which you have supplied to the Department.  Please pay special attention to the contact information for consumer complaint, disaster consumer complaints and the persons to whom information regarding regulatory and statutory updates are sent.  If the contact information is not current, you may miss important bulletins and notices regarding disaster plans and information and may also incur fines and penalties due to failure to timely respond to complaints or other directives from the Department. Be Familiar with the Disaster Plan of the Louisiana Department of Insurance

Bulletin No 06-04 of the Louisiana Department of Insurance gives important information of the plans of the Department in the event of an emergency or disaster. Be Prepared for the Process for the Registration of Adjusters in Catastrophe Situations

Louisiana law generally requires that only licensed adjusters may adjust certain types of property and casualty claims in Louisiana. However, under certain conditions, an insurer may register adjusters who will be used in Louisiana.  The Catastrophic Adjuster Registration Module of the Industry Access System is used in these circumstances.  Please be sure that all appropriate staff has the required permissions in the Industry Access System to carry out this function.  You can find information on the use of the Industry Access System at by clicking on the “Instructions and Help” link on the log-in page at https://ldiia.ldi.state.la.us/IndustryAccess/login.aspx.
