House Speaker Marco Rubio’s Television Interview: Comments on PIP

House Speaker Marco Rubio was recently interviewed on CBS4 Sunday Morning, a South Florida news network.  The interview included discussions on property taxes, property insurance, personal injury protection (“PIP”), and a possible special session. 

Regarding PIP, Speaker Rubio was asked whether the mandatory insurance would sunset or expire.  He responded, “I don’t know.” 

He expanded by stating that he would like to have some type of mandatory insurance coverage, but it must be meaningful reform and cannot be the current system.  Speaker Rubio was also asked about the potential for a special session on PIP.  He stated that if the Governor wants to call a special session, “fantastic” and reiterated that there must be a proposal with meaningful reform.  He does not favor a special session to extend the current system. 

If a special session is called, it will likely be in September 2007.
