FWCJUA Safety Committee Meeting Report: April 30

Apr 30, 2008

On Wednesday, April 30, 2008, the Florida Workers Compensation Joint Underwriting Association (“FWCJUA”) held a Safety Committee (“Committee”) meeting to discuss the FWCJUA 2008 Cause of Loss and Safety Program Analysis (“Analysis”).

The meeting was called to order by Claude Revels from the FWCJUA Board of Governors, with Jim Ward, Michael Cleary and Brett Stiegel in attendance.

Mr. Cleary reported on the Analysis conducted by FWCJUA staff and Travelers.

The FWCJUA’s goal is to promote policyholders’ workplace loss prevention. That objective is supported through conducting causes of loss analyses, modifying the FWCJUA safety program to satisfy any indentified deficiencies, and exploring alternative methods and techniques for accepting and using safety programs.

By Florida law, all FWCJUA policyholders are required to participate in a safety program. The FWCJUA also encourages policyholders to implement statutory workplace safety programs. Policyholders who participate in the additional safety programs receive a two percent premium reduction and drug-free workplace participants receive an additional five percent reduction. To further promote workplace safety, the FWCJUA issues quarterly reminder bulletins regarding premium credits, offers various on-line risk control resources, and through Travelers, provides free Safety Webinars and publishes “Risk Control News Briefs” semi-annually.

The Analysis produced no recommendations to alter the current loss control and safety performance standards already put in place by the FWCJUA, nor did it recommend any alternative promotion methods for those standards.

The Committee approved acceptance of the Analysis with no changes and made no further recommendations to the Board of Governors.

The meeting was then adjourned.
