FPCA Homeowners Division: Two Committee Referrals for 2010 Insurance Partial Deregulation Bill Indicates Fast-Track

Dec 21, 2009

House Bill 447, which would afford all Florida insurance property companies the opportunity to charge partially deregulated rates, has received only two Committee referrals for Florida’s 2010 Regular Legislative Session.  Generally, a relatively minimal number of committee referrals indicates that a bill is fast-tracked for consideration.

Also known as the “Consumer Choice” bill, HB 447, sponsored by State Representative Bill Proctor, has been referred to the House Insurance, Business and Financial Affairs Policy Committee and the General Government Policy Council.

Now in the Insurance, Business and Financial Affairs Policy Committee, its first committee of reference, the bill is available to appear on the agenda should the chairman choose to hear it.

SB 876 by Senator Mike Bennett, which is identical to HB 447, has not yet been referred to any Senate committees.
