State Representative Bryan Nelson Discusses Proposals for Wind Mitigation Inspection Fraud Bill

Nov 5, 2009

Representatives from Colodny Fass met today, November 5, 2009, with State Representative Bryan Nelson (R-Apopka) to discuss proposed legislation relating to fraud prevention in the wind mitigation home inspection industry that would be introduced during the 2010 Regular Legislative Session.

Florida Chief Financial Officer (“CFO”) Alex Sink is developing a legislative proposal that would impact the Division of Insurance Fraud.  While a bill has not been filed at this time, we expect that the legislation will address fraud related to Personal Injury Protection (“PIP”), money laundering and other areas.

Representative Nelson also indicated his interested in incorporating anti-fraud measures associated with the Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form (OIR-B1-1802) that is mentioned in CFO Sink’s proposal.

During the meeting, Representative Nelson requested that the wind mitigation inspection industry provide draft legislation for his consideration that ultimately could be incorporated into legislation.  Katie Webb and Trevor Mask will be working with Representative Nelson and other industry representatives on addressing this, and other proposals.

Colodny Fass will continue to provide updates on this matter as new developments occur.  Should you have any questions or comments, please contact this office.
