Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty have released statements applauding the Senate’s passing of legislation aimed at increasing access to affordable health insurance.

Statement by Governor Charlie Crist Regarding the Senate’s Passing of Legislation to Increase Access to Affordable Health Insurance

“Today the Florida Senate passed legislation 39-0, which will bring affordable, quality health insurance products within reach of nearly 3.8 million uninsured Floridians.
“I thank President Pruitt, Senator Peaden and the members of the Senate who have answered the call to find innovative strategies for developing affordable health insurance options. Their leadership will have a lasting impact on the health of Florida’s families and Florida’s future.”

 

Statement by Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty on Senate Passage of Gov. Crist’s Health Plan

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – “I applaud the Florida Senate for today taking a positive step toward providing access to affordable health insurance to the more than 3 million Floridians who currently do not have coverage.

“The unanimous approval (39-0) that this bill received is a clear indication of its importance to all Florida consumers. Because of the leadership of Gov. Crist and Sen. Peaden, Florida residents will no longer have to struggle to provide health care to their families.

”I urge the Florida House to act swiftly and pass this responsible legislation so that Floridians may begin to take advantage of the Cover Florida program.”
