Senate Sinkhole Bill Proceeds to Senate Floor

Apr 1, 2009

This morning, CS/SB 742 relating to Sinkhole Losses by the Florida Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance passed the Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations—its final committee of reference.  A late-filed amendment offered by Senator Charles Dean (R-Inverness) was withdrawn.

The bill would require insurers to consider local ordinances relating to sinkhole mitigation when setting insurance rates after the Florida Financial Service Commission has gathered information on the effectiveness of those ordinances for four years.

CS/SB 742 next will proceed to the Senate floor for consideration.

CS/HB 351, a similar bill in the Florida House of Representatives, was heard on a second reading by the full House on Tuesday, March 31.
