Georgia Senator Ralph Hudgens emerged victorious today, August 10, 2010, in the Republican Primary Run-Off Election for the State’s Insurance Commissioner

Senator Hudgens, who serves as Chairman of the Georgia Senate’s Insurance Committee, was a speaker at the annual Colodny Fass-sponsored Florida Insurance Summit held earlier this year.

Early Georgia election returns indicated that Senator Hudgens defeated his rival, Atlanta insurance regulatory attorney Maria Sheffield, with at least 55 percent of the vote in tonight’s runoff Primary that winnowed the nine-way Republican field.  He faces Democrat Mary Squires in the November 2010 General Election.

Georgia’s former Insurance Commissioner, John Oxendine, had stepped down to run for Governor, albeit unsuccessfully.
