Florida Insurance Commissioner Asks Governor Crist to Consider Omnibus Property Insurance Bill

May 10, 2010

In a letter to Florida Governor Charlie Crist today, May 10, 2010, Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty reiterated his support for SB 2044, the omnibus property insurance package.

Saying that the bill “strikes an appropriate balance that will have lasting benefits for the people of Florida,” Commissioner McCarty asked the Governor for his consideration of SB 2044.

He also expressed his concern about “those who seek to take advantage of loopholes in the current law” and characterized those loopholes as the “cost drivers” that impact both consumers and the insurance industry.  In his letter, Commissioner McCarty outlined the various provisions of SB 2044 that would serve to address these issues and curb their negative effects.

The letter is attached for review.
