Florida Governor Rick Scott Appoints Two to First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission

The Office of Florida Governor Rick Scott issued the following news release on October 9, 2012:

 

Governor Rick Scott Appoints Two to First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission

Tallahassee, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the appointment of Christa Calamas and the reappointment of Steven K. Yablonski to the First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission.

Calamas, 41, of Tallahassee, currently serves as Health Policy Chief for the Florida House of Representatives. Previously, in 2006, she served as the Secretary of the Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA). Calamas also served as the Assistant General Council for AHCA from 2000-2002 and as the General Counsel for AHCA from 2005-2006. From 2002-2005, Calamas served as an Assistant General Counsel for the Executive Office of the Governor. She received her bachelor’s degree from Eckerd College, her master’s degree from Dundee University, and her law degree from the University of Florida. She succeeds Patricia K. Conners and is appointed for a term beginning October 9, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.

Yablonski, 70, of Jacksonville, is a retired attorney who previously practiced in Washington, D.C. in the areas of complex litigation, environmental law, and antitrust. Yablonski has served on the First District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission since 2002 and as an arbitrator for the Florida New Vehicle Arbitration Board since 2004. He received his bachelor’s degree from California State College, his law degree from Duquesne University, and his master’s in law from the University of Pennsylvania. He is reappointed for a term beginning October 9, 2012, and ending July 1, 2016.
