Workforce Business Solutions Inc. has acquired the Florida and California assets of Bradenton-based Employee Leasing Solutions for an undisclosed sum.

The deal was between two local men — Bill Mullins, who has a long history of running professional employee organizations in the area, and Robert Kelly, whom Mullins described as a former business partner and friend of 21 years.

Mullins, who is retiring, sold the assets of Employee Leasing Solutions to Kelly, who is president of Workforce Business Solutions.

Employee Leasing has about 120 employees, with about 100 of those in Bradenton, which will remain the company’s home base.

“Everybody who was on payroll at the end of the year is on payroll now,” said Daniel Johnson, a company vice president and its general counsel.

The transition is expected to be a seamless one for customers, as well.

Professional employee organizations, or PEOs, handle human resources functions for clients, such as managing workers compensation insurance. That has been a key part of Employee Leasing’s business, because it focuses on the construction industry.

The sale was effective Jan. 1.

“Bill Mullins has been around here a long time and is one of the founders of the PEO industry,” Johnson said. “The idea was to provide a way for a business person to concentrate on what he usually does best, which is his business and not have the human resources burden.”
