Sen. Bogdanoff:  Give state vendors 5 percent preference

Florida based vendors doing business with state and local governments would get a 5 percent cushion when competing with out-of-state firms, under a measure (SB 538) filed Thursday by Sen. Ellyn Bogdanoff, R-Fort Lauderdale, reports the News Service of Florida.

Dubbed the “Buy Florida Act,” the proposal would apply to all municipal, county, school district and state contracts. The bill calls for such contracts to be awarded to Florida firms if the bid is within 5 percent of the lowest out-of-state bid.

The bill is likely to receive applause from Florida retailers, who are also competing with Internet-based competitors with no physical presence in the state.
