ADVANCE: Insurance-Related Legislative Committee Meetings–Monday, April 20

Joint Legislative Budget Conference

Negotiators for the Florida Senate and House of Representatives will hold a Joint Budget Conference on Monday, April 20, 8:00-9:00 a.m., at a location to be determined.  The Senate passed its budget bill (SB 2600) on Thursday, April 16, and the House of Representatives passed its budget bills (HB 5001, HB 5101) on Friday, April 17.  The bills of the two Legislative bodies now must be reconciled.

Florida Speaker of the House Larry Cretul (R-Ocala) and Senate President Jeff Atwater (R-North Palm Beach) said that budget issues not resolved at the Joint Budget Conference will proceed to appropriations chairmen at Noon on Thursday, April 23.  Budget issues subsequently unresolved will then proceed to presiding officers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24.

Speaker Cretul said that would allow the Legislature time to reach a compromise on and pass the budget by the end of the 2009 Legislative Session, scheduled to adjourn May 1.

Florida Senate Committee on Finance and Tax

The Florida Senate Committee on Finance and Tax will meet on Monday, April 20, 1:30-3:30 p.m., Room 301 of the Senate Building, The Capitol, Tallahassee.  The agenda includes the following insurance-related bills:

  • SB 1894 relating to Insurance by the Senate Committee on Judiciary and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)
  • SB 2282 relating to First Responder Services by State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)

Florida Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations

The Florida Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations will meet on Monday, April 20, 1:30 p.m. 3:30 p.m., Room 401 of the Senate Building, The Capitol, Tallahassee. The agenda includes the following insurance-related bill:

  • SB 2072 relating to Attorney’s Fees/Workers’ Compensation Cases by State Senator Garrett Richter (R-Naples)
