Updated–Texas Windstorm Insurance Association Board of Directors Applications Extended to September 1, 2015

UPDATE!  Application Deadline Extended to September 1, 2015!

The Texas Department of Insurance issued a reminder today, August 11, 2015, that it is accepting applications for the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association (“TWIA”) Board of Directors (“Board”).  The makeup of the Board was changed by the enaction of Senate Bill 900 this year.

The deadline for applications is August 15.

Under SB 900, which becomes effective September 1, 2015, the TWIA Board must include:

  • Three board members who live in Texas coastal counties, including one who is a licensed property and casualty insurance agent;
  • Three board members who live at least 100 miles from the Texas coast; and
  • Three insurance industry representatives who write and renew windstorm and hail insurance along Texas’ Gulf Coast.  These members must be nominated by insurers that are members of TWIA.

All members of the TWIA Board must have demonstrated experience in insurance, general business or actuarial principles, as well as in their individual area of expertise.  The new Board terms will begin October 1.
