Nov 30, 2009

A Special Session that will convene the Florida Legislature from December 3 through December 11, 2009 officially has been called for the sole purpose of considering legislation relating to the operation and infrastructure of a state passenger rail system.

A joint proclamation issued late today, November 30, 2009 by Florida Governor Charlie Crist, Senate President Jeff Atwater and House Speaker Larry Cretul, was preceded by memorandums from each of the legislative leaders that instructed state lawmakers to make imminent travel plans.  The memorandums included a summary of the proposed legislation that outlines funding, organization, governance and accountability for the new “Florida Rail Enterprise.”

In regard to taking up legislation during the difficult economy, House Speaker Larry Cretul remarked that “Florida’s transportation future is tied to the state’s prosperity.”
