On Tuesday, April 28, the following bills were acted upon by the Florida Legislature:

 

Florida Senate Session

The Florida Senate held Session on Tuesday, April 28, during which it discussed the following insurance-related bills:

  • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1894 relating to Surplus Lines Insurers by the Senate Committee on Finance and Tax and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)
    • Update:  CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1894 was temporarily postponed in the Senate on its third reading.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1950 relating to Property Insurance by the Senate Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means and State Sentor Garrett Richter (R-Naples)
    • Update:  CS/CS/1st ENG 1950 was read a third time in the Senate, during which CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1950 was substituted by CS/CS/CS/HB 1495 and has been laid on the table.  This bill is now dead.
  • CS/CS/CS/HB 1495 relating to Insurance by the House Full Appropriations Council on General Government and Health Care and State Representative Bryan Nelson (R-Apopka)
    • Update:  CS/CS/CS/HB 1495 was read a second time in the Senate, during which it was substituted for CS/CS/1st ENG SB 1950.  CS/CS/CS/HB 1495 was read a third time, PASSED the Senate (34Y-2N) with one amendment and now is in House Messages.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/HB 453 relating to Tax Credits for Contributions to Nonprofit Scholarship-Funding Organizations by the House Finance and Tax Council and State Representative Will Weatherford (R-Wesley Chapel)

  • CS/CS/CS/SB 1138 relating to Self-Insurance Funds by the Senate Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means and State Senator Don Gaetz (R-Fort Walton Beach)
    • Update:  CS/CS/CS/SB 1138 was read a second time on Special Order in the Senate, during which CS/CS/CS/SB 1138 was substituted by CS/CS/HB 845 and has been laid on the table.  This bill is now dead.
  • CS/CS/HB 845 relating to Self-Insurance Funds by the House General Government Policy Council and State Representative Brad Drake (R-DeFuniak Springs)
    • Update:  CS/CS/HB 845 was read a second time in the Senate, during which it was substituted for CS/CS/CS/SB 1138.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/CS/SB 2072 relating to Workers’ Compensation by the Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations and State Senator Garrett Richter (R-Naples)

  • CS/SB 2036 relating to Residential Property Insurance by the Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)

  • CS/CS/SB 880 relating to Community Associations by the Senate Committee on Judiciary and State Senator Mike Fasano (R-New Port Richey)

  • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 732 relating to Financial Instruments by the Senate Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means and State Senator Chris Smith (D-West Palm Beach)
    • Update:  CS/CS/1st ENG SB 732 was read a second time on Special Order in the Senate and two amendments were adopted, one of which was a property insurance amendment relating to the Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
  • CS/SB 2282 relating to First-Responder Services by the Senate Committee on Banking and Insurance and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)

  • CS/CS/SB 1372 relating to Insurance by the Senate Committee on Criminal Justice and State Senator Mike Bennett (R-Bradenton)

    Florida House of Representatives Session

    The Florida House held Session on Tuesday, April 28, during which it discussed the following insurance-related bills:

    • CS/HB 853 relating to Surplus Lines Insurers by the House General Government Policy Council and State Representative Pat Patterson (R-DeLand)
      • Update:  CS/HB 853 Passed the House (116Y-0N) with one amendment, was received by the Senate, and has been referred to the Senate Committees on Banking and Insurance; Finance and Tax; General Government Appropriations; Policy and Steering Committee on Ways and Means.  To view the most recent bill analysis, click here.
    • CS/CS/CS/HB 419 relating to Condominiums by the House Criminal and Civil Justice Policy Council and State Representative Ellyn Bogdanoff (R-Fort Lauderdale)
      • Update:  CS/CS/CS/HB 419 was read a second time on Special Order in the House, during which CS/CS/CS/HB 419 was substituted by CS/CS/1st ENG 714 and has been laid on the table.  This bill is now dead.
    • CS/CS/1st ENG SB 714 relating to Condominiums by the Senate Committee on General Government Appropriations and State Senator Dennis Jones (R-Seminole)
