The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (“NAIC”) has reappointed Missouri Insurance Director John M. Huff to a second two-year term as the state insurance commissioner representative on the Financial Stability Oversight Council (“FSOC”).  In this role, Director Huff will continue to represent the interests of state insurance regulators on the FSOC, a 15-member body comprising the United States’ chief financial regulators.

The FSOC was created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Protection and Consumer Protection Act of 2010 to monitor the safety and stability of the nation’s financial system, identify risks to the system, and coordinate a response to any threats.  The FSOC has the authority to identify financial firms, financial market utilities and systemic payment, clearing, or settlement activities whose failure could potentially pose a risk to the financial system.

The Council consists of 10 voting members and 5 nonvoting members and brings together the expertise of federal financial regulators, state regulators, and an insurance expert appointed by the President.

The next meeting of the FSOC is on Friday, September 28, 2012.
