NAIC International Solvency and Accounting Working Group Conference Call: April 15

Apr 13, 2009

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners International Solvency and Accounting (EX) Working Group (“ISAWG”) will hold a conference call on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, beginning at Noon EST.

The ISAWG will review the attached standard and guidance papers on the structure of capital resources for solvency purposes, which are being released for broader consideration after review by the NAIC Solvency and Actuarial Issues Subcommittee (“SSC”) at its February, 2009 meeting.

These papers, which form an integral part of the SSC’s commitment to develop comprehensive documentation on solvency assessment (the International Solvency Requirement), are a supplement to three pairs of standard and guidance papers approved by the ISAWG in October 2008, which include:

  • the structure of regulatory capital requirements
  • enterprise risk management for capital adequacy and solvency purposes
  • use of internal models for regulatory capital purposes

According to the attached memorandum, the final development of the guidance paper has paid particular regard to supervisory issues and lessons emerging in the context of the financial crisis, such as recapitalization.
