Nov 17, 2008

As a Founding Board Member of the Florida Breast Health Initiative and an active volunteer with this wonderful organization, I have witnessed firsthand the unrelenting determination, dedication and commitment that has earned Andrea Ivory her recent national recognition by L’Oreal’s prestigious “Women of Worth” award program.  As one of only 10 nominees nationwide, Andrea is already a winner, but with your simple vote today, the Florida Breast Health Initiative could receive an additional $25,000 to assist more underserved women in obtaining urgently-needed breast health care.  I urge you to vote for Andrea and pass this message along to as many friends as you can–before the November 24, 2008 deadline.”

About the “Women of Worth” Award

More than 30 years ago, L’Oréal coined the phrase “Because I’m Worth It” to celebrate a woman’s worth and build her self-esteem. In 1997, as an extension of this sentiment, L’Oréal Paris partnered with The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund to raise money and awareness in the fight against ovarian cancer.

Recently, L’Oréal established the “Women Of Worth” – a grassroots program and award that honors women who serve others in their communities.

Who is a Woman Of Worth? She’s an inspiring volunteer, an outstanding achiever, and a beautiful person who’s making a difference in her community. Whether she’s setting up literacy programs, organizing children’s initiatives, or spearheading life-saving charitable organizations, her mind and door are always open. Her devotion is endless.

About the Florida Breast Health Initiative

The Florida Breast Health Initiative (“FBHI”) was established as a non-profit organization by Andrea Ivory.  As a breast cancer survivor, she was thankful for the access she had to early detection resources and ensuing treatment that saved her life. Throughout her recovery, she thought about those who were losing their fight with breast cancer because they did not detect a problem early enough and lacked access to available treatment.

In seeking a solution, Andrea’s vision of FBHI was realized as a mobile neighborhood outreach to increase awareness of breast health and access for screening to women who are uninsured and  underserved by the health care system.

Because there is no cure for breast cancer, FBHI has been founded on the fact that early detection saves lives.  It serves neighborhoods that are most likely to have the highest concentration of underserved women, then FBHI volunteers walk door-to-door providing breast health awareness, tools to perform breast self-examinations, free mammograms for qualified women, referrals for low or at-cost screening, assistance to those participants requiring additional screening and treatment.

The distinguished FBHI Board of Directors is comprised of both men and women who are business professionals, community leaders and breast cancer survivors from Miami-Dade and Broward County, Florida.  Their purpose and unilateral goal is for FBHI to provide a no cost, proactive, preventative approach to help eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.
