The Joint Select Committee on Property Tax Relief and Reform will meet on Monday, June 11, 2007from 9 a.m. to noon, one day before the start of the June, 2007 Special Session
The most recent tax relief proposal is partially based on a rollback of property tax rates calculated on previous tax increases. Florida voters would then be asked to change the State Constitution and approve the second phase of the plan–increasing the amount of homestead exemption–in a special election on January 29, 2008,the same day as Florida’s presidential primary election.
However, the constitutional amendment phase of the plan first would have to pass the Florida Legislature by a three-fourths vote of both chambers in order to make the Jan. 29, 2008ballot.
