House Public Safety Council Reviews 2008-2009 Recommended Budget Reductions

Feb 13, 2008

On Wednesday, February 13, the House Public Safety Council chaired by Representative Dick Kravitz (R-Orange Park) met to address potential budget reductions for Fiscal Year 2008-2009.

Interim Secretary and General Counsel of the Department of Juvenile Justice (“DJJ”), Jennifer Parker, presented the agency’s recommended 10 percent reductions.

Incoming Secretary, former State Representative Frank Peterman (D-St. Petersburg) is scheduled to take charge of DJJ on February 18.

Ms. Parker in her opening comments stated that Secretary Peterman had not yet had the chance to provide input on the budget reduction process, but that he did make a point to express his dismay with any cuts to prevention services.

Ms. Parker also went on to explain that the recommendations she was submitting to the Council were in fact the same recommendations made by DJJ prior to Special Session C in the summer of 2007.
