Governor Crist Declares State of Emergency for State of Florida Due to Wildfires

Citing an “ongoing danger of wildfires and drought conditions that continue to threaten the lives and property of the citizens of Florida on a statewide level,” Governor Charlie Crist today, Monday, May 12, 2008, issued an Executive Order (“Order”) declaring a State of Emergency for the State of Florida.

The Order establishes additional authority for those agencies with operational responsibilities in fighting wildfires.  It also designates the Division of Emergency Management Director as State Coordinating Officer and directs him or her to activate the State’s Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and other response and mitigation plans necessary.
