Florida Senate Banking and Insurance Committee Meeting re Property Insurance 3/16/2006

On Wednesday, March 15, 2006, the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee considered one member bill and heard presentations and discussion regarding property insurance legislation and Citizens Property Insurance Corporation (Citizens).

Senate Bill 346 (attached) by Senator JD Alexander regarding workers’ compensation benefits for first responders such as firefighters and law enforcement was reported favorably by the committee.

The committee heard presentations on the following issues:

– Auditor General’s Operational Audit of Citiznes.

– Presentation of the report from the Task Force on Long-Term Solutions for Florida’s Hurricane Insurance Market.

– Discussion of recommended proposals to address the Florida hurricane insurance market.

The information discussed during the committee meeting is attached. The Senate is expected to take up and consider a property insurance proposal within the next three weeks of the legislative session.
