Fla. Justices side the Enterprise in crash suit

The state Supreme Court is siding with a rental car company in a dispute on whether it should have shared responsibility for damages to an accident victim.
Rafael Vargas included Enterprise Leasing Co. in a suit against the driver who rear-ended his car and the woman who rented it. His lawyers cited state law that exposes rental companies if a driver doesn’t have enough insurance to reach maximum limits for injuries and property damage.
But the Supreme Court ruled Thursday that a federal law that shields rental car companies from liability in crashes caused by others preempts the state law.
The decision upholds lower court rulings.
