Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate’s Homeowners’ Working Group to Review Policyholder Claims Bill of Rights Draft at Today’s Meeting

Florida Insurance Consumer Advocate Robin Smith Westcott’s Homeowners’ Policy and Claims Bill of Rights Working Group (“Working Group”) will meet today, August 19, 2013, in Clearwater, Florida, to review a draft bill of rights on insurance claims handling processes and other related issues.

The Working Group has met several times over recent weeks, during which it discussed recommendations on this topic.

Also included in today’s meeting materials is the Texas Consumer Bill of Rights, along with a copy of Section 626.9541(1)(i), F.S., relating to unfair claim settlement practices.  Those items, along with the agenda, are attached in PDF format.

Today’s meeting will be held at the Pinellas Realtors Organization at 4590 Ulmerton Road, Clearwater, Florida from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with public testimony scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The Working Group will ultimately prepare a comprehensive report providing recommendations for addressing each identified aspect of the insurance claims handling process either administratively or through proposed legislation.
