To honor his commitment to facilitate a smooth transition into the 2016 Hurricane Season, Florida Insurance Commissioner Kevin McCarty advised Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet members in a letter today, April 20, 2016, that he is amending his resignation so as to effectively provide a 45-day transition period after his successor is appointed by the Financial Services Commission (which comprises the Cabinet members).

Commissioner McCarty’s letter is attached for review.

The selection of the next Florida Insurance Commissioner was deferred after Governor Scott and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater could not agree on their respective candidate choices at last month’s Cabinet meeting.  The search process was subsequently opened to more applicants.

A vote on Commissioner McCarty’s successor is expected at the upcoming Cabinet meeting on April 26 at 9 a.m.
