Florida House of Representatives’ Speaker-Designate Steve Crisafulli (R-Merritt Island) announced today, October 16, 2014, that he has chosen State Representative Matt Hudson (R-Naples) as his nominee for Speaker Pro-Tempore, and has appointed State Representative Dana Young (R-Tampa) as House Majority Leader for the 2015-2016 Florida Legislative Session.

For 2015-2016, State Representative Ritch Workman (R-Melbourne) will be Chairman of the Rules and Calendar Committee, and State Representative Richard Corcoran (R-Trinity) will Chair the House Appropriations Committee.

On his choice of Representative Hudson, Speaker-Designate Crisafulli said,  “Representative Hudson has shown unfailing leadership in his role as Chairman of the Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee. He has tackled complex issues and has a willingness to fight for legislation that is in the best interest of all Floridians.  He has served the House well and will be a great asset to me during this legislative term.”

On the appointment of Representative Young, he said, “As Majority Leader, I had the pleasure of working with Representative Young, who served as Majority Whip.  I know firsthand that she has what it takes to be a great Majority Leader for our caucus. She is bold, knowledgeable, and has earned great respect in the Florida House.”

Speaker-Designate Crisafulli also affirmed Representative Workman’s appointment, saying, “Representative Workman championed the cause of all Floridians as he led the way on a $500 million tax relief program during the 2014 Legislative Session.  He builds consensus, solves complex problems, and treats all members with respect.  He will make an excellent Rules Chair.”

On Representative Corcoran, the Speaker-Designate explained, “Representative Corcoran has a wealth of knowledge and expertise, having served both as a staff member and an elected Representative.  His skills and experience will be well suited in his role as the Chair of Appropriations. When I was named Speaker-Designate, I was grateful for the way Speaker Weatherford included me in the operations of the House during his term, and I intend to follow the same model during my tenure.”

The full committee structure for the Florida House of Representatives will also be released in the weeks following Florida’s November General Election and will be made available on MyFloridaHouse.gov and through the Florida House Mobile app, which is available for all iOS and Android devices by clicking here:  http://bit.ly/FLHouseApp
