Florida Coastal High Hazard Committee Report 2/02/2006

Jan 4, 2007

The Governor’s Coastal High Hazard Study Committee released its final report today without specific recommendations regarding insurance. The recommendations contained in the report revolved around land development and hurricane preparedness.

Governor Jeb Bush created the Coastal High Hazard Study Committee last fall, and appointed its nineteen members. The members mainly consist of state agency heads and private sector developers. OIR Commissioner Kevin McCarty and a representative of State Farm were also appointed.

While initially created to look at all aspects affecting coastal development, including presumably windstorm insurance, the Committee chose to focus on issues such as the coastal construction control line, hurricane evacuation, and more accurate modeling and mapping.
