Fla. House panel delays Sansom hearings

Aug 4, 2009

A special Florida House committee has delayed hearings on ethics allegations against former Speaker Ray Sansom until after his criminal trial.

At an organizational meeting Tuesday, the panel decided not to meet again until early October.

The Destin Republican is facing trial Sept. 29 on official misconduct and perjury charges. He is accused of funneling millions to Northwest Florida State College which then gave him a high-paying job.

The ethics complaint is based on the same allegation. The committee could recommend Sansom be expelled. He already has given up the college job and the speakership.
