Five Broward High Schools Ranked Among Nation’s Best by U.S. News & World Report

Five Broward County public schools have been recognized as being “Silver medalists” among the top 7.1 percent in America by a recent U.S. News and World Report comprehensive evaluation of the nation’s best high schools.  

In order to accomplish the rankings, a survey of over 21,000 public high schools in 48 states and the District of Columbia was taken.

Six South Florida schools were recognized as “Gold medalists” among the Top 100.

Report:  S. Fla. has six of nation’s best high schools

A study by U.S. News & World Report found that six of the nation’s 100 best high schools are in South Florida.

Working with School Evaluation Services, the magazine evaluated academic and enrollment data from more than 21,000 public high schools. It awarded the top 100 gold medals. Other high-ranking schools received silver and bronze medals.

Florida has 10 gold-medal high schools, ranking fourth behind New York, California and Texas. Of those, six were in South Florida:

  • No. 15: Design and Architecture Senior High School, Miami
  • No. 57: Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts, West Palm Beach
  • No. 60: Suncoast Community High School, Riviera Beach
  • No. 66: Maritime and Science Technology High School, Key Biscayne
  • No. 82: New World School of the Arts, Miami
  • No. 95: Coral Reef Senior High School, Miami

In Florida, 7.1 percent of the high schools evaluated by U.S. News & World Report received a bronze medal or better, compared with 9.3 percent nationwide. Six schools in South Florida were awarded silver medals, and one received a bronze.

They were:

  • Atlantic Technical Center, Margate (silver)
  • Fort Lauderdale High School, Fort Lauderdale (silver)
  • Mater Academy Charter Middle/High School, Hialeah Gardens (silver)
  • Nova High School, Davie (silver)
  • Pompano Beach High School (silver)
  • William T. McFatter Technical High School, Davie (silver)
  • William Turner Technical Arts High School, Miami (bronze)
