FEMA Issues Flood Insurance Claim Investigations Guidance to Write Your Own Companies

Jan 3, 2017

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (“FEMA”) issued Bulletin W-16091 on December 30, 2016 to provide guidance on National Flood Insurance Program (“NFIP”) requirements for claims handled by “Write Your Own” companies.

The guidance focuses on the use of services provided by subject-matter experts as part of specific NFIP claims investigations.  Such subject-matter experts include, but are not limited to, engineers, surveyors, salvors, architects and certified public accountants.

FEMA normally reimburses Write Your Own Companies for use of such services as Type 1 Special Allocated Loss Adjustment Expenses.
