Colodny Fass Shareholder Joel Fass Installed as President of B’nai B’rith Justice Unit #5207

Joel S. Fass, a shareholder in the law and governmental consulting firm Colodny Fass, was installed as president of the B’nai B’rith Justice Unit #5207 at the organization’s 34th Annual Installation Brunch on Sunday, March 9, 2014.

During the ceremony, which was emceed by Florida State Attorney Mike Satz, Fass received a Proclamation from the Broward County Commission, which was presented by Commissioner Martin Kiar. Maurice Berkowitz also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Unit. Keynote speaker Kenisha Anthony gave a powerful speech regarding the impact attorneys and the judiciary had on her life in foster care.

The B’nai B’rith Justice Unit (BBJU) #5207 is a local chapter of B’nai B’rith International. Its membership consists of Jewish attorneys and judges, located primarily in Broward County. BBJU has provided an important avenue for the civic and social involvement of its members while carrying out the ideals of B’nai B’rith.

Fass is a member of the firm’s Children’s Rights Practice Group, which has secured more than $100 million in damage awards. It is the largest practice group of its kind in the state, and is one of the largest in the country. Since 1974, he has focused on personal injury, commercial litigation and civil rights.

Active in community and youth affairs, Fass serves on the boards of Florida’s Children First as well as the Broward County Area Agency on Aging. He was named to the Broward Senior Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2010, Fass was given the “Ending Abuse Award” by Broward Jewish Family Services for his advocacy of shared gender responsibility in maintaining domestic tranquility among families in the Jewish community.

Professionally, Fass is a fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, an honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American trial lawyers, as well as the American Association for Justice. He also serves on the board of the Stephen R. Booher American Inn of Court.

He is one of fewer than five percent of Florida lawyers to be acknowledged in the prestigious Florida Super Lawyers Magazine, and was recognized as a “Top Lawyer” in the 2014 edition of the South Florida Legal Guide.

Fass earned his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from the State University of New York (“SUNY”) at New Paltz. He received his juris doctor at SUNY Buffalo Law School. A member of both the Florida and New York Bars, Fass is licensed to practice law in state and federal, trial and appellate courts, as well as the United States Supreme Court.
