Brazil opens reinsurance market to more foreign competition

From January 1, 2017, the minimum amount of reinsurance cessions that Brazilian insurers must offer to local reinsurers will fall to 30%, from the current level of 40%, leaving more potential business for foreign reinsurers, BN Americas reports via Advisen.com.  That minimum will then fall progressively to 15% by January 1, 2020, leaving as much as 85% of an insurance company’s reinsurance cessions available for foreign reinsurers, according to resolution 322, released by local regulator Susep.
