OIR Rule Workshop

The Florida Office of Insurance Regulation (“OIR”) has issued a Notice of Rulemaking Development regarding the following Rules related to the Cover Florida Health Care Access Program:

The proposed Rules would implement the Cover Florida Health Care Access Program by establishing filing requirements, standards for forms, marketing materials and the development of rates.  They would also provide for the maintenance of records and required reporting of information by certain entities.  Related violations and penalties are specified.  The Rule amendments also would require the electronic filing of an insurer’s report of disposition and other communication related to civil remedy notices. 

If a Rule Development Workshop is requested in writing and not deemed unnecessary by the agency head, one will be held at the date, time, and place shown below:

DFS Rule Hearing

The Florida Department of Financial Services (“DFS”), Division of Consumer Services has issued a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding the following Rule:

OIR Public Rate Hearing

The OIR will hold a public rate hearing regarding a recent rate filing made by Olympus Insurance Company in which a 25.6 percent overall increase for new and renewal homeowners’ insurance policies was requested.  The rates would be effective December 18, 2009 for new policies and January 18, 2010 for renewal policies. The requested increases are not uniform and policies in certain geographic areas are subject to higher rate increases than others.  To view the hearing Notice, click here.

FCHLPM Windstorm Mitigation Hearing

The Florida Commission on Hurricane Loss Projection Methodology (“FCHLPM”) will hold the third in a series of hearings on the implementation of windstorm mitigation discounts, credits, other rate differentials and appropriate reductions in insurance deductibles on Thursday, October 29.  The hearing takes place from 9:00 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. in the Hermitage Centre Conference Room, Hermitage Centre, 1801 Hermitage Boulevard, Tallahassee.  The call-in number for this meeting is:  888.808.6959; conference code:  4765251363.  To view the hearing agenda, click here.

 

NAIC Valuation Method Principles-Based Reserve Life Subgroup Meeting

LOOKING AHEAD 

 

Tuesday, November 3

The OIR has scheduled an annual meeting of the Continuing Care Advisory Council.  The agenda will include appointing a new chairperson and vice chairperson and a discussion of issues currently facing the Continuing Care industry.  This public meeting will take place via telephone conference call on November 3 at 10:30 a.m.  Participation in person is also welcome.
