Rick Scott confirms he is running for re-election

By Peter Schorsch

Gov. Rick Scott, who narrowly won the governorship in 2010 and has been plagued by low approval ratings, confirmed to the News Service of Florida on Tuesday that he plans to run for re-election in 2014.

“I like this job. I enjoy being governor,” said Scott, a Republican who defeated Democrat Alex Sink nearly a year ago by the slimmest margin in a governor’s race in decades after spending more than $75 million of his own money on the race.

Scott has maintained a political action account, Let’s Get to Work, and has seen his approval numbers increase a bit in recent weeks after slumping to below 30 percent earlier this year. Scott has staked his term on reducing unemployment, and the jobless rate has declined a bit since he took office, though it has continued to hover above 10 percent.

“I’m going to do my best … to keep the cost of living as low as I can in the state and make sure people get an education and can get a job. So, I plan on running for re-election,” Scott said.
