Mar 24, 2008

At a press conference this morning, March 24, 2008, Department of Juvenile Justice (“DJJ”) Secretary Frank Peterman Jr. was joined by State Representatives Frankiln Sands, Martin Kiar, Tony Sasso, and Yolly Roberson as he discussed the DJJ’s emphasis on prevention, intervention and diversion.

Secretary Peterman also read a proclamation from Governor Charlie Crist announcing March 23 through March 29 as the 2008 Department of Juvenile Justice Week.  DJJ Week, an annual event, is designed to promote awareness of positive, community-based initiatives to prevent youth from engaging in crime and delinquency.

In response to reporter inquiry regarding the impact of slated budget cuts on the DJJ, Secretary Peterman indicated that the largest cuts will be made to the Department’s detention and residential divisions.
